Chimes’ “Oz” Extended School Day Nursing Care Center, Holon
Director: Carmit Malki
Chimes Israel operates the extended school-day care center, “Oz”, in Holon. Located in the “Oz” special education school, the center serves the students of the school, offering them a stable and secure feeling in a familiar environment.
Today, the “Oz” Extended School-Day Care Center integrates 35 children and youth, between the ages of 6 to 21, with moderate to severe intellectual developmental disabilities and some who require nursing care, into its program. Many of the children have additional difficulties such as ADHD, communications disorders, varied levels of autism, challenging behavioral disorders, etc.
The children at the “Oz” Center are divided into activity groups according to age, level of functioning and special needs of each individual child. Each group is cared for by a permanent team with their daily agenda tailored to the needs of the children. The “Oz” Center employs professional counselors and a paramedical team consisting of a nurse, a physiotherapist, and people who run the various group activities, such as: music, drama, movement therapy, animal therapy and medical clowning. In addition to the therapies and classes, the counselors and the many volunteers who are integrated into the Center’s classes, lead the children in activities such as art, sports, playing games and music, etc.
The children at the Center eat a light snack in the afternoon and in the camps which are run over the holidays and summer, they receive a hot meal.
In the course of the year, many events are held combining the volunteers from the community, including business firms, scholarship students and groups of soldiers.
Sundays through Thursdays between 14:15 to 18:00.
