Chimes’ “Holland Center” Rehabilitation Day Care Center
Manager: Lilach Nahari
The “Holland Center” opened in 1996, in collaboration with the Municipality of Tel Aviv, the Ministry of Welfare and Social Services and Chimes Israel in order to offer rehabilitative care for children from the ages of 6 months to 3 years with developmental delays – all under one roof.
The “Holland Center” is operated by Chimes Israel under the supervision of the Ministries of Welfare and Social Services and Health in cooperation with the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa.
The Objectives of the “Holland Center”:
- To offer rehabilitative and therapeutic intervention in the early stages of the child’s development for the purpose of helping the child to reach his maximum potential.
- To provide assistance and support to the child’s family in dealing with the child’s treatments while minimizing the effects of the child’s disability on the family.
Each year, the “Holland Center” cares for about 40 babies and toddlers with developmental delays caused by various syndromes, congenital injuries, diseases or conditions whose cause is unclear. The children are transported daily to the centers and back home with an escort.
At the “Holland Center”, the children receive educational and advanced paramedical treatments in a kindergarten setting – including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and more. Also available are unique treatments in Sensory-Stimulation Rooms for the children, especially helpful for those with visual impairments (Dark Room and a Snoezelen* Room) as well as animal therapy and more.
* Snoezelen or controlled multisensory environment (MSE) is a therapy for people with autism or developmental disabilities.
Concurrently, the Center operates a social network that addresses issues for the families of the children (parents, siblings and grandparents).
The “Holland Center” maintains intensive contact with the Child Development Clinics, Kupot Cholim (HMOs) and the Welfare Department to help the child and his family as much possible.
The “Holland Center” integrates Jewish, Muslim and Christian children and children of foreign workers from families who live in Tel Aviv-Jaffa and its neighboring communities. The staff is also multi-cultural and holidays of all the religions are noted throughout the year.
After completing their time at the “Holland Center”, each child moves to an educational program suited to his needs in mainstream or special education. The staff of the “Holland Center” continues to accompany the child until he is successfully integrated into a program at the next stage of his education.
