Broken Routines, Growing Vulnerability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As Iran and Hezbollah launch repeated missile attacks on Israeli civilians and infrastructure, families across the country have been spending long stretches of time in bomb shelters. Daily routines are disrupted, and many services have paused under Home Front Command directives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the children and adults with disabilities we serve, these disruptions carry added consequences. Many rely on consistent routines and ongoing therapies to maintain and build essential skills. When this support stops, even briefly, it can lead to regression, increased anxiety, and growing strain on families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Care That Does Not Stop Under Fire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With our programs closed, families are now managing complex needs at home, often while needing to reach bomb shelters quickly when warning sirens sound. In response, our teams have shifted to an emergency mode of operation. Staff remain in close contact with families and provide daily remote therapy sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also go well beyond duty, continuing their work at personal risk under ongoing missile threat. With extraordinary commitment, our client-facing staff members are carrying out weekly home therapy visits to every nursing day care adult and early intervention child. These visits deliver essential therapeutic support and provide families with a rare and much-needed moment of relief under constant pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bringing Therapy, Relief, and Stability Into the Home<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During these visits, and also to adults in our employment centers, our teams distribute therapeutic activity kits made possible through generous emergency support from the Jewish Federations of North America, the Chimes Foundation, and individual donors worldwide. These kits include structured activities tailored to each person\u2019s age and abilities. They play a critical role in helping preschool children continue developing communication, motor, and emotional regulation skills. Staff use the materials during visits, guide parents on how to use them independently, and reinforce progress through remote sessions. This support also includes family relief baskets with essential supplies, helping to ease the daily burden on households managing under difficult conditions, as well as care baskets for staff who are immigrants without family support in Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small Interventions, Life-Changing Impact<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our staff members continue to respond to each family\u2019s needs in practical, immediate ways. In one case, a child refused to enter the bomb shelter during sirens. A center director connected with him over video, spoke with him calmly, and helped him feel comfortable enough to go inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another instance, a staff member visited a family with books and games, spending time with the child while the mother prepared for Passover. The visit provided support for the child and a brief but meaningful break for the parent, who was also caring for younger children while managing work from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also supported a mother experiencing significant anxiety as the situation intensified. Isolated at home with her child and under constant threat of sirens, she began to feel overwhelmed and unable to cope. Our team stayed in close contact with her, helped her navigate available services, and supported her in securing professional therapeutic care. This intervention helped stabilize the situation and ensured she did not face the crisis alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Urgent Gap: Safety for Our Youngest Children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While we are meeting urgent needs in real time, significant gaps remain. We are also working to address critical safety needs for when routines resume. Our Or early childhood center in Modi\u2019in does not have an on-site protected space. We are working to secure the resources needed to install dedicated bomb shelters so that young children with disabilities can reach safety immediately during sirens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
