Protecting the Most Vulnerable: Trauma & Exploitation Awareness
People with disabilities face significantly higher rates of abuse and exploitation than the general population. Many never receive protection, or even the opportunity to speak.
Chimes Israel, together with Machon Argaman, the leading Israeli institute specializing in abuse prevention for vulnerable populations, is implementing a groundbreaking program to protect children, youth, and adults with disabilities from abuse, exploitation, and harm.
For more than three decades, Chimes Israel has supported people with disabilities in living lives of dignity, independence, and inclusion. Today, we serve families across Israel from every background. Yet too often, people with disabilities, especially women and girls, experience abuse that goes unseen, unreported, or dismissed. Fear, dependence, and lack of awareness keep many silent.
We are changing that reality.
A first-of-its-kind program
Our organization-wide Trauma & Exploitation Awareness Program transforms how we protect those in our care by:
- Training staff across all centers to recognize risk and respond appropriately
- empowering children, youth, and adults with disabilities to identify abuse and protect themselves
- Equipping parents and caregivers with tools to safeguard their loved ones
- Embedding a culture of safety throughout the organization
This initiative positions Chimes Israel to become the first disability organization in Israel to earn a national Standards Mark for Trauma & Exploitation Awareness, setting a new benchmark for the field.
This program creates lasting change. It builds safe environments where people with disabilities are respected, heard, and protected. 💙 One participant in our pilot empowerment program shared: “For the first time, I felt I had the right to say no.”
