Program for At-Risk Preschool Children with Disabilities
As the voices for those who often cannot speak for themselves, Chimes Israel’s mission is to do all we can to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities from every community, every day, through providing cutting-edge professional services delivered by well-trained and supervised, caring staff members.
Too often, normative society does not perceive or treat people with disabilities as adults with agency over their own lives. We seek to turn this around by constantly building programs that promote their independence. Examples of these programs include self-advocacy and empowerment, continued employment, vocational colleges, financial literacy, and health and wellness education.
Vision of Sustainability
Through our Legacy program, we seek to secure for generations a future where individuals with disabilities thrive in an inclusive society, empowered by comprehensive support networks and opportunities for growth. While the government’s Ministry of Social Affairs funds our organization on a per-client basis, we provide many essentials that are only possible through donations.
Many of our clients spend most of their waking hours at our centers. It is their whole world. We try to offer them as many varied experiences as possible within our walls, and many outside excursions (which always include the presence of volunteers). These “extras” are essential in helping our people achieve their inherent potential to promote personal development, independence, and community participation.

While the State pays for our clients’ daily care, donations are the lifeblood of our organization’s innovative offerings, paying for essential items, activities, and programs. These items often include the construction of new buildings.
For example, for the last three years, we have been raising money to build a state-of-the-art fortified early childhood center for preschool children ages six months to three years with disabilities in the rapidly growing and Gaza rocket-vulnerable city of Ashkelon. The new fortified center will enable Chimes Israel to provide high-quality, professional services, treatment, education, and support for hundreds of children with disabilities in Ashkelon for years to come.
Donations fund therapeutic equipment, most of it essential developmental and habilitation gear. Donations pay for the construction of recreational facilities including playgrounds and greenhouses, enabling “extra” activities such as sports and horticulture therapies. It also funds art, gardening, and music therapy instruction and materials. It funds our two vocational colleges for young people with disabilities. It also funds essential programs such as financial literacy education; health and welfare education; self-advocacy and empowerment workshop to prevent abuse; trauma awareness education; and our post-war resilience workshop.
